About Me

So… what’s up with the pink lab coat?

If you’ve landed here, you might be wondering:
Who’s the woman in the cartoon? What is this space? And what do cosmetics have to do with calculators?

Hiya, I’m Meghan, but most people call me Meg.
And yes, I really did wear a pink lab coat when I ran my own sustainable, handmade cosmetics business. Some days I even added flowers in my hair (Blame my country – I’m from Seychelles 🌸).

Before that? I was deep in marine science.

My degrees are in marine science, and I grew up in a culture where the green and blue economies weren’t just trendy; they were a normal part of everyday life.

Then I moved to the UK. (I blame my husband 😅).

And suddenly, finding a job in environmental policy and sustainability research felt impossible. I had all this passion and knowledge, and nowhere to use it.

So I fell back on something I’d started as a hobby while I was at uni.

It is so easy as small handmade business owners to listen to the outside noise, and not celebrate the small win. Once I realised I was making small differences, I changed my mindset. Don't let other people's insecurities dim your light.

And oh, did I mention I studied in China?

That experience opened my eyes. Not just to the scale of environmental problems caused by mass production, but to the hypocrisy of it all. The world loves to point fingers at China, but truthfully? The problem is global. It’s fuelled by the richest nations and their obsession with cheap, throwaway goods, most of which end up in landfills or, worse, dumped in “developing countries.” Cute, right?

Anyway, back to the pink lab coat.

You might’ve noticed (especially if you’ve seen my TikToks): I’m not a makeup person. So why did I start a cosmetics brand?

Well, friend, when you’ve spent most of your life in a lab and can’t find a job in your field, you do what you can. I figured, why not build the kind of business I wish existed?

That’s how Sey Cosmetics was born.

It wasn’t just about beauty products; it was activism. A response to greenwashing, non-inclusive brands, and products that were harmful to people and the planet. I wanted to prove you could use cosmetics as a tool for change. Ethically sourced ingredients. Honest branding. Products that supported the local economy.

But the problem was that I had no business tools.

I was passionate, but I was constantly winging it. You might be able to relate.

It took me years of learning, trial and error, and late-night Google searches to figure things out.

Somehow, I even ended up nominated twice for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. So I must’ve done something right.

Eventually, I realised cosmetics wasn’t my forever path.
I got a 9–5 job working for a web design agency that helps small businesses make their websites and advertising greener. And that’s when it really clicked:

So many small, sustainable product-based businesses are going through the exact same struggles I did.

No tools. No support. No clear, trustworthy information.

So in 2022, while pregnant with my daughter, I started writing. I began designing books, tools, spreadsheets, and real-world guides made specifically for fellow eco-makers. Not just to share what I’d learned, but to finally give others what I wish I’d had when I started.

Because sustainability isn’t just a value; it’s the foundation.

And your business? Deserves support that honours both your purpose and your profit.

Additionally, I know what it’s like to want to grow a small, sustainable, handmade business without burning out, giving up, or losing sight of your values. I’ve lived it.

When I launched my own eco-friendly business, it felt like an endless uphill climb. Figuring out costs, setting prices that were fair (to my customers and me), sourcing ethical materials, managing overheads, all while trying to stay true to what I believed in. Exhausting doesn’t even begin to cover it.

I spent countless nights second-guessing myself. Wondering if I’d ever figure it all out.

Questioning whether my little business could actually support my life, my family, and the planet at the same time.

And honestly? The mental fatigue that it brought on my relationship with friends, my husband, and family made me second-guess myself even more.

What Changed?

After years of trial and error, working in digital marketing, and learning alongside other small business owners, I realized something important:

It’s not that we lack passion or determination. It’s that the kind of help we actually need is hard to find.

Most business books and courses out there are written for people who already have money to invest.

People who can afford coaches, mentors, or expensive programs. And even then, much of the advice is designed for big companies or purely profit-driven businesses, not for small, handmade brands trying to balance sustainability with making a living.

That left me and so many others feeling unseen, stuck, and overwhelmed.

So I decided to write the books I couldn’t find.

Books that feel like having a coach or mentor by your side, guiding you through each step, but without the steep price tag.

Learn More About The Green Crafting Workbook

Books written specifically for small, sustainable, handmade business owners like you.

Books that don’t just talk about profit but also respect your values, your craft, and your vision for a more sustainable world.

And to make them truly actionable, I paired them with tools, such as calculators and trackers, designed specifically for this kind of business.

Because you shouldn’t have to choose between affordability and good advice, or between profitability and sustainability.

Why do I do this

I know how lonely and overwhelming it can feel to run a small business.

I know what it’s like to question every decision, to feel stuck, to wonder if you’re doing it ”right.”

But I’ve also learned what works and what doesn’t. Through my own mistakes, and through the stories of countless others just like you.

That’s why I started writing books and designing tools that don’t just crunch numbers but also guide you step by step.

They’re here to help you avoid the guesswork, save time, and feel proud of the business you’re building. Both financially and environmentally.

It might not look like much, but the day that I was finallyy able to rent my own space was the happiest day of life. From a small dark room in my house to my own little handmade lab in Cardiff city centre.

The Books & Beyond

My books are at the heart of what I do. I’ve spent three years writing them, and I’m so happy to finally share them.

They exist to help guide you through the messy, wonderful, overwhelming reality of running a small, sustainable handmade business.

They don’t just tell you what to do, they show you how to do it, with exercises, tools, and real-world advice you can actually use.

And to make it even easier, I’ve created companion tools and calculators that bring the books to life, turning insights into action and helping you take the next step with confidence.

If you prefer to focus only on the calculators, you can also subscribe to LEM’s financial hub and get access to all the calculators.
